Record-breaking pilot returns home
"I'm off": A wave before leaving Birmingham The first woman pilot to fly the smallest aircraft, single-handedly round the world via Australia and the Pacific has arrived back in Britain. Polly Vacher touched down at Birmingham International Airport just after following a four-month journey around the globe. Polly, a retired skydiver, flew a single-engine Piper Dakota 22,000 miles, visiting 21 countries on the way. En route to Australia she crossed Europe, the Middle East, India and Indonesia. She flew back across Fiji, the United States and Iceland. The flight raised thousands of pounds in sponsorship to go towards the cost of a disabled person learning to fly.
